Alloy 420 Stainless Steel Plate is a hardenable martensitic stainless steel bar, derived from Alloy 410. Like Alloy 410, it boasts at least 12% chromium, ensuring robust corrosion resistance. Distinguished by its higher carbon content compared to Alloy 410, this plate is designed for superior strength and hardness. Post-annealing, it exhibits commendable ductility, and can be hardened to a remarkable Rockwell hardness of 50 HRC-the pinnacle for 12% chromium grades. While welding is seldom performed due to its hardening nature, it is possible. Developed for high hardness, martensitic stainless steels may exhibit compromised qualities. Corrosion resistance is not as high as in austenitic grades, and its operational range is limited by decreased ductility at sub-zero temperatures and diminished strength due to over-tempering at high temperatures. Optimal corrosion resistance is achieved when the material is hardened and the surface is finely ground or polished.

Cold Working
Tolerates only light cold working.

Annealing
